Final Exam (P2)

This piece was a sketch for my animal cruelty project. Since this piece was a sketch I decided to use pencil because I am very comfortable and confident with it. I intended to grab the audience by focusing on their emotional side. I wanted the audience to feel a need to help when they saw a cute drawing of an animal with facts around it that described how many animals are being mistreated and abused. The media I chose helped portray a more realistic animal which helped grab the audience. I believe this piece was successful because it helped me grow as an artist. I learned more about the topic of animal cruelty myself while also educating others through my piece.

I chose text/ magazine clippings as my media. I picked this media for a journal entry. This media was very fun to work with because I was able to use my imagination and put together different clippings to make something fun and comical. My motivation for this piece was to create something weird and fun and the media I selected allowed me to achieve my goal much easier. I believe that my final piece was successful because I was able to find many images that helped me achieve my goal of having a fun, energetic piece.

The projects that allowed me to use drawing medias were my favorite. I enjoyed growing as an artist by drawing realistic figures. This class offered many projects that allowed me to use my imagination and take my artwork in many different directions. Personally, I am a student that likes direction. The freedom of this class was great, but also made pieces more challenging. Overall, this class was a lot of fun and I will miss it next year.

Pick Your Own

I developed ideas by putting together pictures that I enjoy drawing. Also, I decided to use a different material, spray paint.

I was inspired to create this project immediately when Mr. Sands brought up the idea of spray painting. I had an idea in my head and went for it. I wish that the wolf had more texture, but I am very happy with my final piece especially since this is my second time spray painting.

I selected street art as my inspiration. I have been wanting to play around with street art for awhile. I really enjoyed it. Street art gives you a chance to use a combination of ideas to create something very cool.

Current Issue

I chose animal cruelty as my topic for my current event project. I chose this topic because animal cruelty is not getting the attention that it needs. Animals are man's best friend and they are being abused and beaten on a daily basis.

To plan for this project, I looked up many articles and animal portraits to potentionaly use as a reference.
In planning this project, I found a good reference of a puppy and drew it in pencil before adding contrast with black and brown sharpie.
I began shading the parts of the piece that I wanted to bring more attention to later on with the sharpies.

I finished by outlining certain parts to emphasize depth in the fur. I also wrote in red ink about the problems and examples of animal cruelty.

I used the text from the articles in the background to add a more emotional impact. I believe my work is effective because it appeals to the emotional aspect and makes the viewer want to do something to help.

Unconventional Materials

I chose this material because I was inspired by the practice unconventional material project we did before. This material was slightly challenging becuase it was a bit hard to manipulate the materials.

I loved the experience of working with materials that are unconventional. The challenge of this project was fun and helped me develop ideas suitable for the project.

I enjoyed working with unconventional materials because it forces you to think out of the box.

Teens Inspired

Teens inspired was a project created by
a team of teachers and museum directors looking for art from kids that have been touched by the genius of art pieces around the museum. Apex teamed up with another school and discussed ideas and pieces that could potentially be used as a reference in their pieces. Personally I was inspired by the nature pieces. I loved the elegant and the light simple colors used in the pieces. The use of light colors made the artwork calm and relaxed. Also, the artwork brought up the feeling of at ease and a carefree nature. I picked a beach piece from the museum simply because my love for the beach made it stand out amongst others and I thought that the artwork was so beautiful and brought a smile to my face. I was a bit scared to do this piece because it required painting and painting is not my strong suit. I looked up other references on Pinterest and tumblr and decided to keep a beachy feel, but to have my final artwork half drawn with charcoal and have painted with water colors. I thought my piece was cool and different because I changed the background and had my final piece was on minello paper. It is definitely not as calming and relaxed as I originally planned for, but it is simple and beachy like my reference. Overall, this project was fun and challenging. I was able to meet new people and to also be inspired by artists whose work is hanging on a meseum wall. I wish that I would have challenged myself more with my final piece, but I am satisfied with the outcome and glad that I tried something different than my normal pieces.

Change

Many of my challenges was due to the lack of ideas. I could not think of an idea for this project until I came across the diphylleia grayi (a flower that turns transparent with rain). The hardest challenge with this piece was that I could not find a white that would appear very bright and solid. Also, trying to recreate something that is transparent is very difficult in itself.

I found an idea on Pinterest. I had another idea associated with flowers and then I came across a particular flower that had everything I needed for the project.

I'm not extremely happy with my final piece. I wish I could have used my resources better for this piece.

This assignment was killer when it came to thinking of ideas. It took a long time of sitting and staring into space for one idea. Although it was hard, when you finally thought of something to create, your idea will be really cool and even though you are not as happy with it, maybe, others might think it is a very cool piece.

Surreal : bird blowing bubbles

My art skills are still continuing to grow. I am learning new techniques from many sources. I am challenging myself and bettering my artwork.

Finding inspiration for this project was fairly challenging. I found a couple cute pictures on Pinterest and put them together. I didn't want my final piece to be extremely creepy like some of my ideas so I opted to go the cute and innocent route.

The most challenging part of this project was coming up with an idea. I didn't want to do something that would make people's stomach hurt. I'm not proud that this was my final idea, but I think it's cute to have a bird blowing bubbles.

Portrait (Art 2)

My art skills have developed tremendously over the years and by practicing more often, they continue to develop. Proportions are always hard for me to grasp. I use to hope for the best and free hand, but now I learned a new technique to create a more realistic feel for my portraits.

Honestly, my inspiration either comes straight from Pinterest and tumblr or it relates to what has happened to me and how I am feeling at the moment. When I'm bored, I think of random ideas and write them down. Usually they are fairly weird so it's a good feeling to create something that's different and people are like "wow, that's cool".

This class gives a lot of freedom to the students and sometimes I don't know what to do with it. Coming up with ideas in general are hard and it's even harder when you know that you have many tools around you that you can use to make your piece that much cooler. It is also hard to follow original ideas because they may be a bit more advanced than your skills. This piece I had to compromise wth my abilities. My original idea was to have her repatching herself and more less trying to heal herself, but I couldn't get the right references so I kept with the skeleton idea and only drew the face of of a girl with the jaw of her skull showing.
